Trending: How Bandwidth IG Enables the BIG-gest Technology Trends

Technology Trends

Last year was a hallmark year that saw some of the biggest technology trends continue to advance. The use of 5G became more widespread, telemedicine visits continued to rise, and enterprises found increased uses for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). While some of the biggest technology trends of the day saw progress, the Bandwidth IG team had a BIG year of its own! With network expansions and strategic data center partnerships, our team has been hard at work to make sure the infrastructure necessary to empower these technologies is in place.

Our team is not slowing down anytime soon. But before we fully dive into the year ahead of us, let’s take a quick look at some of the BIG milestones that defined the last year.

Empowering the Biggest Tech Trends With a Diverse Fiber Backbone

One of our proudest accomplishments from the past year is our network expansions. 2021 saw us add over 110 route miles across our networks in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Greater Atlanta area.

In the Bay Area, our team completed the first of three fully diverse routes with our San Jose expansion. The 100% underground fiber optic network runs from Santa Clara to San Jose at a distance of less than 30 km. This first route was designed to maximize diversity from other networks while minimizing latency between data centers in Santa Clara and Equinix’s Great Oaks campus in South San Jose. Construction on the second route is nearing completion. When finished, the second fully diverse route will head north from Great Oaks to the data centers in northeast San Jose.

In Atlanta, the team completed construction of a second diverse route from the central business district to Switch, Inc.’s facility in Lithia Springs, known as The Keep. This route is completely underground and like the first route, included boring under the Chattahoochee River to ensure complete diversity from other operators.

These new fiber networks are a critical component of empowering the technology trends of 2021 and into the New Year. In addition to AI becoming even more widespread in 2022, a report from Forbes predicts that digitization will rise as things we typically do in the real world slowly gain more digital components. Behind these trends lie a fiber backbone that is necessary in order to transmit data. Our newly built networks ensure data can be sent at the rapid speeds necessary for these emerging technologies.

As a company whose focus is to build and operate the most efficient, new, high capacity dark fiber networks, we can assure you that more BIG things are in store for 2022! Key moments yet to come include an expansion into a new area that is quickly becoming one of the top data center markets in North America to watch. That’s all we can say for now, but stay tuned for more.

BIG-ger Presence in 2021

In addition to expanding our fiber network, 2021 was also a big year for growing our presence in some of the best data center environments in the Bay Area and Greater Atlanta.

  • We began providing dark fiber to Switch for its Keep Campus in Atlanta.
  • We created stronger connectivity options for enterprises connecting through QTS’ Santa Clara data center.
  • Our dark fiber solutions are helping to advance Digital Realty’s capabilities by offering hyper-scale, high-quality network infrastructure for digitally transformed businesses in Silicon Valley and Atlanta.

Each new agreement strengthens the connection between data centers and reduces latency, allowing data centers to better serve their customers and giving enterprises access to the strong networks needed for today’s modern business applications.

BIG Aspirations for 2022

While we don’t have a crystal ball with which to predict the future, we can say with certainty that more great things will come to fruition in 2022. We have more agreements with leading data center companies on the horizon. Our increased presence at a growing number of data centers and entering into a new market will give more enterprises access to much-needed newly built high capacity networks that today’s businesses demand.

Our team looks forward to what the year has in store and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Contact us anytime to learn how we can help you with your network connectivity solutions.
